Speed Limit on Fayette Street

October 24th, 2007 · No Comments · Traffic

Found an interesting little tidbit on the Conshohocken Borough web site today.  I enjoy seeing what type of decisions are made by Council via the Council Meeting Agendas.  It seems that they are planning or at least have received state approval on, reducing the speed limit on Fayette Street from 35 MPH to 25 MPH.

I personally applaud this move.   I live about 3 blocks from Fayette and frequently walk to the CVS, the lower end bars and restaurants, etc.  I often feel like its a game of Frogger trying to cross the street, even in a crosswalk!  The borough has tried to fix the situation by placing those signs near the crosswalk warning drivers that crossers have the right of way and they must stop.  You have no idea how many times I have almost gotten killed running across the street to avoid a car or truck.

A reduction in the speed limit on Fayette will certainly help the situation.  A more pressing issue will be enforcement.  I would love to know how Conshy Police are going to enforce this.  I don’t think I have ever seen a police car out enforcing the speed limit on Fayette.

Maybe with the reduction in speed limit Conshohocken will see a potential revenue stream in enforcement and will encourage police to clamp down the speeders.  No matter what the final result, I think this new limit will only help with the over livability of the Borough.
