Santa Comes to Conshy

December 7th, 2007 · No Comments · General

One of the things about Conshohocken that always strikes me as funny is its ability to grow and act as a major hub for commerce, traffic, business and community while continuing to address the need for the “small town” activities. You would think that it would abandon these things for the good of some other money making need, but they don’t. Things like the Soap Box Derby, St Patricks Day Parade, Car Show, July 4 Fireworks and countless others continue in Conshohocken as if its a town of 500 in the middle of Nebraska.

My girlfriend and I are always commenting on how Conshy will use any excuse to close Fayette Street and hold a parade or some other event, as if closing that street is a minor inconvenience. Since Matsonford Bridge is like one of three bridges over the Schuylkill River, it is a major inconvenience, but that doesn’t matter. Why? In my opinion it’s because at the root of the Borough is the people and these events are important to the people. I think we would have a lot of complaints if they were no longer held.

Although certainly not a major inconvenience, the arrival of Santa is another example of these central theme. The volunteer firefighters go out of there way to make Christmas special for the local kids. I also know that they do a Christmas Eve ride around with full lights and sirens down every street in the Borough with Santa on the ladder truck.

All in all, a nice end to 2007. Looking forward to 2008..
