Welcome Conshohocken Recorder Readers…

July 10th, 2008 · 4 Comments · Breaking News, General, News

I gave an interview to the Conshohocken Recorder about a week ago and it looks like the results have hit the presses.  So, if you are new to this site, welcome to my world.  Feel free to comment and say hello.

I used to write for my University paper, so I’m not new to seeing my name in print.  Seeing an article specifically about me?  OK, that’s pretty strange.  I won’t let it go to my head, promise.

I have a question, doesn’t anyone in this town care about its HISTORY!!??
Why isn’t the community coming together to SAVE the HISTORIC property on 528 Fayette Street? Built in 1854::: REPEAT 1854* Before the Civil War! It was built by Squire Jones for Joseph Whitton. Whitton owned a large Wool Mill on Washington Street along the river. Dr Paul Miraglia and his wife, Eleanor, purchased the property in 1938, and Law and Tax offices now occupy the Main structure and behind the main structure on the grounds is a 19th c Carriage house where as the name says the horsed Carriages & horses. The Carrriage House was reconstructed in the late 20th c and provides a home for 2 residents…ME. The Carriage house has an upstairs and a down stairs apartment houses. The current own, son of the previous is selling it to a BANK. Liek Conshohocken needs another bank. It is all about the money!
This building is listed as one of only a small handful of Historic properties left in this town. This building is featured in 2 books and represents old time charm. I think it is sad and sickening to tear down this HISTORIC PROPERTY BUILT IN 1854 TO BUILD ANOTHER BANK! Even the Walnut tree in the yard of this home is historic. It’s a living, breathing form of life from times past. This town needs to come together and save this historic building! The architecture, the history – its life. I drive around and I see these homes built in a matter of months- where each home looks like the next – You don’t see much in the way of history anymore as big companies tear down nature/historic buildings to re-build a shopping mall or a string of homes or another bank !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Carolann,

I too am disappointed at the 5 banks that co-exist in our small one square mile town. Who is making these horrible decisions????
