Recycling in Conshy

November 5th, 2008 · No Comments · General

I had some business to take care of in Center City and decided to walk to the R6 stop in Conshohocken.  This was a Tuesday morning, so many of my neighbors had trash out on the curb for pickup.

I am quite a nosy neighbor and during my walk would sneak a peak into many of the trash cans.  I hold the opinion that you can learn a lot by the trash a person generates.  I’m sure, right after the postman, the trash men know the most about the residents of Conshohocken.

As I glanced into the cans, I realized the large number of recyclable goods that were being thrown away.  So, I thought I would use this post to remind everyone what is recyclable and what is not.  The biggest offenders were the light cardboard boxes. Things like cereal boxes and pasta boxes were being thrown away with the generic trash and not recycled.  Here is a list of things that can be recycled, at least according to Conshohocken Public Works:

Commingled in your recycle container:

  • All colored glass bottles and jars
  • Lids and bottle caps
  • Metal cans (including aerosol cans)
  • #1 PET and #2 HDPE plastics

Please crush containers to save space

Paper in brown bags or tied bundles on top of your recycle container:

  • Newspapers
  • Inserts
  • Junk mail
  • Envelopes
  • Any white or colored paper
  • Manila folders
  • Telephone books
  • Magazines
  • Light cardboard (such as cereal boxes)

Please no corrugated cardboard

So, pitch in and recycle all the materials we can.
