Donut Bliss

April 10th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Food & Drink, Review

I’m a big fan of donuts.  OK, who isn’t?  In my travels across this country, I always try to find and sample the local donut shop offerings.  Donuts tend to be regional in the prep, toppings, fillings and cooking time.  Every city and state has a slightly different variety.

My favorites for a very long time have been Krispy Kreme.  I work for a company that has me travel to Durham, NC once or twice a year and that area seems to be the center of Krispy Kreme’s universe.

But, recently, I have found a new donut love and it is right in our backyard.  Suzy-Jo Donuts, in the middle of Bridgeport, has some great donuts.  They are fresh, slightly crispy and have a little bit of love fried into each magical circle.  I brought a dozen in to the office today (of course, being Good Friday, no one is around) and just finished my first.  It was excellent.

So, before you wait in line for chain-store Dunkin Donuts or expensive pastries at Starbucks, give the locals a shot.  I think you’ll be happy.

My wife grew up in Norristown; I am a transplant from South Jersey. She told me that one day, if she ever got pregnant, I would need to know where Suzy-Jo Donuts was located. We also get fashnaughts from Suzy-Jo every year.
