Not really Conshy news, but local news nonetheless and it is probably important to local residents. It appears the Valley Forge Convention Center got clearance for slots.
My concern, in an ever worsening economy, the poor tend to look to gambling as a solution to money problems. In much the same vein as the PA Lottery, it seems the vast majority of the people who can least afford to gamble, do so. The Valley Forge Convention Center is less then 10 miles from Conshohocken and 1 mile from my work. I know the area well. I can ony hope that the visitors to the casino will be the tourists going to the Conventions, King of Prussia Mall, the Philadelphia Premium Outlets and Valley Forge Park. If locals look to the one-armed bandits as a solution to money problems, the entire community will be affected and not in a good way.
I don’t think it’s going to be that bad. The Convention Center was approved for a resort casino, which is much smaller than most of the slots parlors in the state, and not just any Joe Schmoe from off the street can gamble. You have to spend a certain amount in the CC complex or be a guest of a convention.
