I’ve received two separate emails from readers that Viggianos has closed as of the 25th of July. In addition, Spamps has a liquor license application on the Viggianos space.
So, the big question, is Spamps expanding into the former Viggianos space? I’m not sure if this type of expansion has to be approved by the Conshohocken Planning Commission, which I sit on. I have not seen a request come across yet from them, but I may not.
One reader mentioned that the waitress was taking email addresses from customers on a future endeavor.
Personally, I have not been to Viggianos in a few years. Last time I was there, the food was OK. Not great, not bad. But, I can say the same thing about Spamps. The food was just OK. Quite frankly, the bar scene was better then the dining area. So, comment if you know anything about the future of these two restaurants.
It’s going to still be an Italian restaurant called Spampinato’s. Possible opening Aug 09.
I have called there several times without any answer. I hope all of those gift certificates out there were used up!
From what I heard, Spampinato’s will be honoring Viggiano’s Gift Certificates.
Looks like it will be open by mid-month

Supposedly Philly Blues on Elm is turning into an irish pub. I’ve even heard rumors of a rooftop bar.
My husband and I just returned from our meal at Spampinato’s Italian Restaurant. The food was quite good, but by no means reasonably priced for the current “recession.” The service was downright aweful, as we waited 30 minutes for our check to make its way up to the third floor. The noise and commotion from the bar is distracting, and definately not family friendly. The staff and hostesses are sloppy, unwelcoming and scarce. The friendly, traditional atmosphere of Viggiano’s will be greatly missed on First Avenue
Does anyone know why Viggiano’s closed? I went their regularly until this summer (due to a new job), and it was always quite packed. Food was always pretty good. Its surprising that they would close.
My wife and I ate there last night and the food was terrible. Worst wedding soup we ever had. All the sauces were too salty, the espresso was burnt and the dessert was WAY overpriced. $9 for an inch thick slice of cake? Not in Conshy. When this was Viggianos, it was really good, but I wouldn’t feed my dog the food from this place now.
