West Nile Virus and Pooled Water

August 25th, 2009 · 2 Comments · General, News

I’m going to put my civic hat on this morning and remind everyone to be aware of the mosquito problem we have and the implications of pooled water.

Mosquitoes carry the West Nile Virus, a generally nasty virus that creates not-so-fun effects on humans.  It appears Conshohocken has had a positive test in mosquito pools for the virus.  So, Montgomery County will be spraying to control the mosquito population.

Everyone should take note of items on their property that may pool water.  These pools are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.  Things like buckets, jars and untreated swimming pools are prime suspects.  Take a look around and make sure you dump out standing water and turn over anything that may pool water.  The rains we had earlier in the year are allowing the mosquito population to do well.
