Fire Settlement, PLCB and San Jose? It’s the Friday News!

October 9th, 2009 · No Comments · General, News

Well, the big news this Friday is that the Riverwalk Fire lawsuit has been settled for about $36 million.  I have a friend that lost everything in that fire and the money will be put to good use.  The interesting thing to me is that he also had renters insurance, so it seems like he is going to be able to “double-dip” on this tragedy to the tune of at least $40,000.  Not sure how that works, but a sweet deal if you can get it I guess.  Granted, I’d forgo the $40K to keep my stuff.

Interesting little piece on the PLCB officer who shook down local bars in order to look the other way in infractions.  The Conshy involvement was limited to Bobby’s Burgers Tavern (no web site?).  Of all places to try to extort money from, Bobby’s would not have been my first choice.

I’ve been in San Jose, California this week for work.  It is always nice to see how the other side of the country lives and I must say, I’m glad I live where I live.  Gas is $3.20 a gallon, traffic is a nightmare and homes are still selling for 2-3 times what a home on the East Coast would fetch.  I’ll stay where I am at.  But, the vegetables are fresh and if you are a computer geek like me, you can check out every Silicon Valley big name all in one place.  Granted, I lived here for a year, seeing a building with Google, Cisco and Yahoo doesn’t really get my juices flowing.

Let’s see…let’s see…what else can I dig up on the interwebs…
