I’ve had the opportunity to attend a fair number of Borough Council Work Sessions and Meetings over the past few years. Generally, they are quite entertaining. There is the occasional shouting match, residents complaining about ridiculous things and the occasional exposure of somewhat exciting news…
This week’s meeting had it’s share of good stuff. The most interesting was a presentation from the rowing coach of 2 local private high schools (can’t recall right now who they were, but I’ll find out).
The presentation had very early sketch plans for a proposed boathouse on the river. The plan, as presented, included building a boathouse on Borough owned property. The land, with a map included below, was granted (or purchased, not sure) to the Borough when the Riverwalk/Stables were proposed. The plan is to form a partnership between the high schools who would fund construction and the Borough who owns the property. Some exciting discussions such as canoeing, kayaking, and bike rentals for the nearby Schuylkill River Trail were also discussed.
Pretty interesting stuff and I’ll be sure to report on developments on this if things progress. The council members and residents present were pretty excited about the presentation and I think it might be super opportunity to create a real landmark for the community.
Obviously, this is in the very early stages and any number of issues could have this fall through. But, an interesting idea.
