Overcoming the Odds, Conshy Style

Schuylkill TrailGreat piece in the The Philadelphia Inquirer today on the history and revival on the ‘Conshohockens’. (**Update** — Messed up the link the first time!)

As a new resident of the Borough, the reason I moved here is because of the revival.  Based on what I have read and heard, it was not the type of a place a young, new homeowner would want to live.

For the most part, I agree with a lot of what the article says regarding  the growth and its ability (or inability?) to slow down.  But, to both the residents and the government’s credit, I feel like the roots of a small town, blue collar town is still in place.  I love the fact that the Borough continues the traditions such as parades down Fayette Street, the Soap Box Derby and Conshy Fun Fest that keep the residential strength in place. It is still a very walkable, safe, friendly town that I look forward to spending many years in.

The traffic situation over the Matsonford Bridge seems to have improved (a slow down in economy helps as well) and generally the non-stop construction of new buildings off the river has slowed to a trickle.

In my opinion, the future looks bright…
