So, I got the following request from a reader:
I would like to see some information about the re-birth of bocce in Conshohocken. Many years ago during my grandfathers youth it was a prominent weekend ritual for many men to go to the CBC or SS Cosmos and Damian bocce courts (now Jack Francis catering building) and spend the day at the courts. I am not sure when it died off but for decades there was nothing to the point where the CBC (Conshohocken Bocce Club) didn’t even have a bocce court on its property. That all changed around 2006 when the CBC took a chance and invested in bringing back its core sport and built two courts. In short order the overwhelming response and participation forced the league to expand to six nights of matches and has a league membership of over 400 with a waiting list of more teams who want to join but there is currently no space to put them.
So — your wish is my command. Can’t say I know alot of Bocce, not even the basic rules. But, I was able to get the following culled together:
- Conshohocken Bocce League Web Site
- The obligatory Facebook page for the Conshohocken Bocce League
- The return of the Pig Roast Fundraiser for the Conshohocken Fireworks is being held at the Bocce Club on June 12th from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 and you can contact Liam McGuigan at liam@coventrycg.com for more info.
- Lastly, in case you wanted to know, here are the rules and play instructions for bocce.
Thanks for posting my note about Conshy bocce. You should stop down to the CBC club one evening and enjoy the competition, food and camaraderie there. Who knows you may want to roll a few…
